Desiree is a stay at home mom to two special boys.  Kaleb, 5 (AKA The Monster Man) was diagnosed with autism just before his 3rd birthday.  Mason, 2 (AKA The Mini Monster) is in the process of getting evaluated as well.

They spend most of their time coming up with new, creative, messy, hair-brained ways to make their mother crazy – she doesn’t have far to go.

Desiree discovered early on in her mommy days that the best way to let out the frustration was to vent – and vent she did.  Much to her surprise, people thought she was funny (you clean a mud mask of poop off your child’s face and let’s see how funny it is!).  Now, years later, the only way she is able to keep her hair from turning white is to share the adventures autism has brought to her life – sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, gross, or sad – but at the very least, she gets to let people into her little slice of spectrum life.

Welcome to The Monster’s Mansion – where Monsters run loose, and you’re not likely to leave without a laugh, a surprise, a smile, and if you’re really lucky, a visit from Poopcasso – or his apprentice, Poopcasso Jr.  No matter what you’ll find yourself with a deep love of Monsters, and that’s what this is all really about.

If you are one of those people who is offended by Desiree calling her boys Monsters, she wants you to know two things:

1. It is a nickname made purely out of love, and you’ll find out soon enough why.

2.  It doesn’t really matter if you like it or not, does it?  They love it.  And we love them.

  1. You have some very good articles, I enjoyed the read. My brother-in-law also has autism so I related to quite a bit of this. Would you be interested in writing for another blog at broodsugar.com? I think you would be a nice addition writing about what you enjoy writing about. If you are give us an email at broodsugar@yahoo.com
